Hello there. My name is Porsha, and this is the story of how Atlas Haircare by Porsha came to be.
Growing up as a little girl in Orlando, Florida, my family was very hair-health-conscious. In fact, a lot of what I have learned and know about hair—especially my own hair, I learned from my mother and grandmother.
My grandmother was a certified cosmetologist for over 30 years, and she owned several hair salons across Orlando, Florida. “Momma Mary”—as she was known back then—was a true hair mogul in Orlando and she was excellent at what she did. She and my mom had so many hair care recipes that they would use to care for our hair. They were indeed “recipes” because I recall these mixtures would contain products that were obtained from our home kitchen and garden—aloe, mayonnaise, eggs, oils, and the like.
These organic hair care recipes created by the matriarchs of my family were the truth because, after our hair care days, everyone’s hair would always look super healthy, shiny, voluminous, bouncy, and just everything amazing when it came to hair care results. As it was something that I was raised on, I fell in love with the concept of tailored recipes and personalized products that would provide nourishment and care for your own hair type and texture and give your hair everything it needed to grow beautifully and stay healthy.
This concept is precisely what inspired me to create my own hair care line—a hair care line of products that would offer the same organic hair care that I was raised on to both women and men all-around. Through my mom and grandma’s experiences, experiments, and amassed wisdom, they uncovered some of the best ways to grow and keep a head full of healthy hair. I learned these ways from them and have now shared them with the rest of the world through Atlas Haircare by Porsha.
I believe that our hair is also an essential part of our heritage. It is something that we oftentimes inherit from those that come before us. In my case, not only did I inherit my hair from the women before me, but I also inherited a love for my hair. I inherited a passion for hair care. I inherited priceless knowledge on the best ways to care for my hair. I even inherited hair manipulation techniques, from using hot combs to straighten out my hair to using relaxers, and then finally learning the right ways to handle my hair so that it can always be at its best.
My hair and its care are integral parts of my heritage. I value and appreciate this heritage, my HAIR-ITAGE.
