International design competition honors projects encouraging thought leadership in design
Design Awards Theme: “Where Innovation Meets Social Responsibility”
(June 11, 2021–San Francisco, Calif.) Smell Revived is honored with a prestigious San Francisco Design Week Award, announced today by the nonprofit organization San Francisco Design Week (SFDW). BroadAR co-founders Yuting Wang and Ziqing Li received the Winner of VR/AR/XR category, which recognized their project Smell Revived for its ground-breaking design and commitment to thought leadership in meeting the needs of a positive future for society.
Smell Revived is the first virtual reality smell training system targeting Post-COVID smell dysfunction. “This product is aiming to revolutionize the smell training experience.” says BroadAR, Inc co-founder Yuting Wang. We strengthen the visual and aural stimulation related to a scent by designing corresponding unique lifelike VR experiences. By bringing Virtual Reality into smell therapy, we make the therapy experience more fun, engaging and effective. Users can visit virtual environments to recall the origin of a scent. Our VR system also quantifies the progress of recovery by designing unique scent quizzes. Therefore patients can keep an accurate first-hand record of their smell training journey. Co-founder and XR Engineer Ziqing Li says, “We also hope that this product could raise awareness of the impact of smell dysfunction.”
SFDW Design Awards is an international design competition seeking to encourage thought leadership by supporting designers whose works can contribute towards a positive future for society.
