Ybor City Tampa, a destination with history of mafia ties and under the table business deals; powerful businessmen that appear genuine and honest yet will take the soul right out of your body at the split of a second. Meet Darryl Shaw, a South African
Businessman also a KAJILLIONAIRE! Darryl scares off local competition by buying them out and making his mark politically in the state. When going up against Darryl, many fold (attorney’s, competitors, press) considering his influence and how easy and effective it is to get his way. Darryl’s business partners, ex-mafia leaders such as Joe Capitano & Bookie Buchman have been linked to the original Italian mafia created in New York City. Darryl and his gang are usually ok with tenants, it’s when they are pressed by town leaders and high up legislators that they come in and take the soul out of your body.
It started in April of 2019. (QVESOIR)
When a guy named Lucky Geneva came in to town to rent Darry’s space, 1920 East 7th Ave. Darryl and Lucky had a pretty good correspondence. Darryl agreed to rent him the space. Lucky did not have an active LLC in place so he used a friends temporarily until his was complete. Darryl told Lucky that the place was vacant for 6 years and would need serious work. Lucky told Darryl that we would put 1 million USD into the venue and Darryl said quote…
“Great, well I’m confident you won’t walk away from that!”
Darryl told Lucky you can borrow $125,000 from me to build out your elevator, if you pay me back an extra $2,100.00 a month for 5 years. Lucky needed an elevator to occupy the full venue, as you need to be ADA Compliant to operate multiple levels in a entertainment venue.
The elevator only cost $70,000.00 yet Darryl charged Lucky extra just for lending him the money.
Darryl also agreed to cover the fire sprinkler cost which as many of you know can be a huge pricey endeavor. It’s usually $5-10 dollars per sq ft and when you have 11,000 square feet that’s a whopping $55k-$100K. So Darryl and Lucky must really have been close to front all those costs.
The issue is, is that Darryl says Lucky was never a tenant. However we have emails that identify Lucky as the tenant by his very own staff.
Lucky moved in and started renovations in September 2019. Yet Darryl didn’t make him pay rent until June 1, 2020. WHY? Because the elevator he paid for was taking a little longer than expected to install.
However when it came to monthly payment and service bills, Casa Ybor which is owned by Darryl & Bookie went straight to Lucky, not to an LLC, yet right to the individual.
NOW HERE IS WHERE THE SHADE GETS SHADIER
As we read earlier, Lucky Geneva told Darryl Shaw that he would put 1 million USD into the property. That being said Lucky was instructed to inform Darryl via Casa Ybor of all the improvements he was to make to the property, and Darryl would have ok them. Even at the conclusion of renovation Darryl sent over a team of employees to ok the final design.
Lucky was having trouble renovating the place, as some renovation seemed too ostentatious. The city of Tampa, nor Darry would not approve some renovations. So both the owners and Lucky scheduled a meeting at the city of Tampa headquarters in downtown Tampa. This was with the help of Darryl using his political connections.
With about 10 of the most powerful people in the city including the landlords of 1920 E. 7th Ave all there to hear Lucky’s Las Vegas Style idea for a nightclub in YBOR CITY. It would seem something like a movie. All these powerful players in one closed door meeting room, getting ready to hear a pitch and approve Lucky’s renovation plans. And so they did. By the time the meeting was over, everyone including the landlords were in love with Lucky. Construction was on the rise and Darryl and his team was moving faster than ever to get the elevator installed.
Lucky received an eviction notice by messenger Wednesday February 3rd 2021. The court originally scheduled the hearing for mid-March. Lucky was injuncted 4 days later on a Saturday, February 7th 2021.
